Welcome to St Joseph's Parish School, Atherton
St Joseph’s Parish School, catering for boys and girls from Prep to Year 6, is an integral part of the Cairns Diocese and the Atherton Catholic Parish. Located approximately one hour’s drive from Cairns, Atherton sits within the heart of the naturally beautiful and agriculturally rich Atherton Tablelands. Despite its many changes over the years, St Joseph’s Parish School has remained committed to providing its students with a well-balanced and relevant education and curriculum.

Our focus this year is even further developing our focus on student centred learning. As such, we are working to minimise any disruptions to the learning schedule and are seeking parental support in helping us to achieve this. We have designated the morning and middle sessions of each day as protected learning times. This means, unless absolutely necessary, we do not interrupt the learning and teaching program of teachers and students during these times. As a parent, you can assist us in protecting your child’s valuable learning time by ensuring that students arrive at school on time and are present in class when the instructional program commences. In this way, your child does not miss any learning and the learning of others is not interrupted. Please be aware that teachers are unavailable to speak with parents once the class bell rings. We ask that you arrange a mutually convenient time to meet outside of instructional hours. All students arriving late, must sign in at the office to update the attendance roll. This avoids receiving an absentee reminder for a child who is present, but arrived late.
Another change of routine to support protected learning time is a slight alteration to our eating times. Whereas we previously ate before play, we are now commencing the lunch breaks with play time, followed by eating time. We are trialling this initiative for term 1. While feedback is a little difficult to gauge after only one week which has been plagued with wet weather routines, early indications are that the students are coming into class much calmer and in the green zone, ready for learning after having some time to cool down from the excitable yellow zone of running around playing.
This years' St Joseph's Debutante Ball will be held on Saturday 25th May 2019 at Merriland Hall, Atherton. Doors open at 6.00pm and we ask that all guests are seated and ready for presentation of Debutantes at 6.30pm. The meal will be served around 7.30pm approximately.
Additional Information and an application form will be available from your school office from Monday 18 February 2019. Collection from your school is preferred, however the forms can be emailed by contacting Deana Nasser at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Confirmation and Eucharist will then be prepared for in Term 3 with a date for Confirmation set for September 13th with First Eucharist occuring on Sunday 15th. This is later that the usual June date, however Bishop James will be away in the middle of the year so all Parishes have be asked to select dates in Term 3.
